Ann Patton Joyce Park

Located on Beverly Road in east Asheville, this green space sits in the heart of the Beverly Hills community and features a toddler playground and benches.

Asheville Urban Trail

The Asheville Urban Trail, a walking tour of downtown Asheville, highlights the unique architecture, people, and historic events of the city. The Urban Trail is divided into five distinct eras, each of which has a symbol. These symbols are carved into pink granite blocks placed in the sidewalk along the way for you to follow. All street crosswalks for the trail are marked. Enjoyed in its entirety, the walking tour requires approximately two hours to complete. The map in this brochure identifies each of the 30 stations by a number. All 30 stations include a piece of art and/or a bronze plaque that describes the station.

Lewis Soccer complex consists of 4 soccer fields and a picnic shelter. Burton Street Recreation Center

Burton Street Center features an auditorium, game room, billiard room, arts and crafts room, a computer lab, a weight room and a kitchen. The park surrounding the center features two basketball courts, a playground and a play field.

East Asheville Recreation Center

Located in the Haw Creek community on Tunnel Road, East Asheville Center is part of the complex housing the East Asheville Branch Library and a fire station. The center includes a full service kitchen and a large multi-purpose room. Outside the center is a large playground, picnic tables, grills and a basketball court.

Food Lion Skate Park

The FOOD LION SKATEPARK is 17,000 square feet of skating excitement located at the corner of Flint and Cherry St. in downtown Asheville across I-240 from the Civic Center. Designed and built by Team Pain, Food Lion SkatePark is a unique concrete park with three distinctive areas in the beginner bowl, intermediate street course and an advanced vertical bowl.

French Broad River Greenway

This roughly 2.5-mile French Broad River Greenway system is Asheville’s major north-south alternative transportation corridor and overlaps with a portion of the Wilma Dykeman RiverWay Plan, a major urban waterfront redevelopment project.The Dykeman plan calls for a 10’ wide greenway trail along Riverside Drive, Lyman Street, Meadow Street and Swannanoa River Road. The trail will be separated from the road by a grass strip and will at times meander in and out of various riverfront parks. It connects a series of proposed riverfront parks on Riverside Drive and the River Arts District to the Amboy Road river park system and West Asheville to the River Arts District.

One of Asheville’s most beautiful parks, the park meanders alongside the tranquil French Broad River and features a vast area of open green space with old trees, a wildflower garden, a paved trail, a gazebo,picnic tables and grills, an observation deck, and a small playground. The Dog Park features a large fenced-in area made for exercising and socializing your pooch! Located at Amboy Rd. and Riverview Dr. in west Asheville.

Glenn’s Creek Greenway

This trail extends from Weaver Park to the Botanical Gardens of UNC-Asheville for a length of one mile. It is a paved trail mostly 10’ wide and connects the Norwood, Montford and University neighborhoods. This greenway is completed except for a short section begins at Weaver Park and ends at Kimberly Avenue where an on-road greenway is proposed. The greenway is proposed along the creek, in an existing sewer right-of-way, and in close proximity to residences on both east and west sides of Glenn’s Creek.

The Montford Park Players encourage the use of the Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre as much as possible by other groups during the summer months and work closely with Asheville City Parks and Recreation Department to help make this resource available to as many community oriented performance groups as possible, however their heavy use of the theater during the summer does limit its availability.

Linwood Crump - Shiloh Complex, located in south Asheville, offers a variety of activities for all ages, plus the Youth Enrichment Program offering recreation activities especially for youth. The center features a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, library, weight room and classrooms; and is surrounded by Shiloh Park with a lighted ball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, walking track and a playground. Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Centrally located in downtown Asheville, this park pays homage to a great civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a life-size memorial statue set in a landscaped courtyard. The park includes a lighted ballfield with concession, restrooms, a playground, picnic tables and grills, and a picnic shelter. The Stephens-Lee Center is located off S. Charlotte Street at Max Street. The center offers a wide variety of programs and classes for all ages, with special emphasis on wellness and fitness for women. The center features a gymnasium and fitness center with free weights, treadmills, recumbent bikes, Stairmaster, elliptical machines, chest press multi-leg extension and multi-pull machine. “Women only” workout times are designed specifically for women by women. The park surrounding the center includes playgrounds, a basketball court and the Dr. George Washington Carver Edible Garden.
